Access statement: Penthouse and Bathwick View.
- These two apartments are part of a new development of just four high quality apartments above a large branch of Barclays Bank. The apartments were completed in August 2008. We have completely furnished both our apartments with brand new top of the range fixtures and fittings. As a result of the workmanship and the quality of the fittings they have both been awarded four stars and Gold awards by Visit Britain.
- The apartments are located on the upper floors of the building; Bathwick View is on the second (US third) floor and The Penthouse Suite is on the third (US Fourth) floor.
- The apartment building is located vey close to the main attractions of Bath. The Abbey & Roman Baths are about 200m away. The closest store is Marks and Spencer, which has a good quality food hall. It is possible to rent (by the day) powered wheelchairs from the ‘Shopmobility Centre’ for modest charges. The centre is just about 150m away. See the following link: http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/BathNES/leisureandculture/tourismandtravel/shopmobility.htm
- These two apartments are situated on the main street from the train station and bus station into the city, a level walk of about 100m. Parking is available directly opposite the apartments in Manvers Street Car Park and adjacent to the apartments in Southgate car park. These are public car parks, with free overnight parking (20:00 – 08:00). Parking at all other times costs up to GBP12. There are chargeable disabled parking spaces by the entrance to Manvers St. A pedestrian crossing links the car park to the entrance. It is possible therefore to carry bags from the car park across the street straight into the apartments.
- Access to the apartments is via the main bank front door, open during business hours but an electronic key pad which requires a code is used outside these hours, allowing entrance into the outer lobby. There are two doors from the outer lobby. One leads directly into the bank and has disabled access, while the other requires a code (provided on arrival) to access the inner lobby.
- The inner lobby contains the main staircase leading to the upper floors. This staircase is wide and has handrails on both sides. There is no lift (elevator). The building is Georgian in style (rebuilt mid 70s) so ceilings are high and therefore the staircase is a ‘long’ one. Between each floor is a half landing on the curve of the stairs which provides a place for rest if required. The landing on each floor serves two apartments and is wide enough for a wheelchair except for the top floor where access for a wheelchair would be limited.
- The apartments are similar in design. The layout can be seen on our website.
- Access is via a single key. The front door opens into the hall, off which is a double door leading to the lounge. There are also two doors leading to the bedrooms and one door leading to a shower room with WC.
- The larger bedroom is big enough for a wheelchair and access to the en suite bathroom would also be suitable. The bath has hand holds to assist in entry and departure. It also has a hand held shower head to assist bathing. There is a low level WC and stone washbasin in the bathroom.
- The smaller bedroom has limited (narrow) access each side of the bed.
- The shower room also has limited (narrow) access to a stone washbasin and low level WC. There is a step up to get into the shower cubicle.
- All apartment floors are carpeted with the exception of the kitchen and bathrooms which are tiled with natural stone. There are no steps within the apartments with the exception of one in the kitchen. All light switches are low level, sockets are off the floor. There are televisions in both the bedrooms and the lounge. They are wall mounted but are possible to use via the remote controls.
- The kitchen has limited access and might be difficult to use from a wheelchair. The kitchen contains built in coffee machine, washer/dryer, dishwasher and hob which should all be usable from a wheelchair. The oven is ‘built-in’ but with knobs at the top, which may not be easily accessible from a wheelchair.
- There are two fire extinguishers and a fire blanket in each kitchen. A fire extinguisher and alarm button are available on the landing outside each flat. Each apartment has a fire notice in the hall detailing the fire assembly point and there are detailed instructions in the Welcome Pack.
